So you’ve uploaded an image and wondering “Why is my image on its side?” or upside down even?
Don’t worry, you aren’t going mad! This issue is caused most commonly when uploading images from mobile devices or modern cameras. Within the image file is a collection of additional information called EXIF Data. This includes information such as the date and time a photo was taken, the location, and you guessed it, the orientation of the photo.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing this article, WordPress does not currently interpret that information, and whilst your mobile device know you had taken the photo with your camera on its side, WordPress doesn’t, so the picture gets added at the orientation it was taken.
Do not fear, the fix is quite simple and we recommend one of two options:
Option 1 – Use the Edit Image option
When you upload the image, there will be an Edit option in the media library, where you can perform a little maintenance on the image (including rotation), simply fix the image here.
Option 2 -Let a plugin automagically fix the problem for you
You can install a free plugin called “IOS Images Fixer”. Simply install this free plugin and when your image is uploaded it will be automatically added the correct orientation.
So there you go…panic over! We hope you found this tip helpful.
